Earlier this crazy year, we had to make some hard decisions about the party we have been throwing in April for thirteen years now. How do you safely hold the world's largest single-day music event when crowding and touching and drinking and dancing and generally being together to celebrate is exactly the opposite of what you should be doing????
We decided to break Record Store Day 2020 up into three dates later in the year. This allowed stores who had been without regular revenue for a while to spread out the List of releases, and figure out how to do things differently, effectively and safely if they had to.
We had to do all this months in advance, and we had to make the decision globally. With no magic 8-ball to give us information about the future.
As we head into the third and final RSD Drops date this weekend, we are calling the RSD DROPS decision a success. Because of the flexibility and cooperation of the artists, labels, distributors and everyone else who gets the records into the stores, the hard work and creativity of those stores, and the overwhelming support of YOU, a success.
