Dear Common Ills, On Thursday and Friday of this week, the Senate will vote on the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. This shameless move by Republicans to appoint a conservative majority to the highest court in the land during the national election and after voting has begun cannot go unchallenged. We must raise our voices to let the Senate know Amy Coney Barrett is not the judge who should replace Justice Ginsburg, and that Barrett’s appointment to the court is an insult to Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s legacy as a champion for equality. Tell Republican Senators that Amy Coney Barrett is the wrong choice at the wrong time. The fate of Roe v. Wade rests on this appointment. LGBTQ rights, gender equality, Title IX anti-discrimination protections, civil rights, voter protections, the future of the Affordable Care Act, and so much more that we hold dear all depend on the next SCOTUS confirmation. We cannot let Senate Republicans ramrod another Supreme Court justice confirmation, act now to make your voice heard! The people deserve to have their votes be counted before a new Supreme Court justice is appointed to the court. There is so much at stake—we cannot stand by while Republicans jam through another confirmation after they denied the confirmation of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court because it was in an election year. Contact Republican Senators now to tell them they must vote to delay a confirmation or vote NO on Amy Coney Barrett. We know we can count on you to act with the urgency this requires. We must protect RBG’s legacy and stop Amy Coney Barrett’s appointment. For equality, | Eleanor Smeal President | |
