Some Tweets from David Sirota

David Sirota is the speechwriter for candidate Bernie Sanders.

  • Winning the most votes in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary is one good way to unify the Democratic Party.
  • Oh, yeah — I also work for the Democratic presidential candidate leading in the Democratic primary polls. And I’m literally married to the Democratic legislator I helped elect. Enough said.
  • I’ve worked for House Dems, worked on 2 Dem Senate races, and helped elect a Dem governor, Dem congressman & a Dem state legislator. Almost all of folks on this website who try to read me out of the party have done far less to help elect Democrats. That’s it. That’s the tweet.

This is an interesting example of the contempt the Democratic establishment has for the regular people in the social movements who fought, bled and sometimes died to win these victories.
  • If we’re talking about civility and toxicity, let’s remember backed a war based on lies that killed hundreds of thousands of people — and he now says he doesn’t regret that. Seems pretty toxic and uncivil.

Barack Obama ran an entire primary against the Washington establishment in 2008 and it worked out ok, partly because most people in America don't have particularly favorable views of the Washington establishment.
  • The same establishment that calls for unity and civility relentlessly and viciously vilifies Bernie Sanders and the working-class movement powering his Democratic presidential campaign.

In 1960, when the Democratic establishment was refusing to take a bold stand in favor of civil rights and voting rights, thousands of activists marched on the Democratic National Convention to demand a stronger civil rights plank. Their message: “Quit Stalling on Civil Rights.”

People bled and went to jail and entirely reshaped the Democratic Party so civil rights laws could be passed. Nothing was “given”

  • In 1963, the Democratic establishment controlled the White House and Congress and there was a march on Washington to force that establishment to pass civil rights laws. The establishment didn’t “give us” those laws — the civil rights movement did.
  • This tweet needs to go in a museum because it perfectly illustrates how elites want us to think their cherished establishment “gave us” these things They want to erase the history of grassroots movements’ struggle, hardship & sacrifice that FORCED a hostile establishment to act
  • These policies weren’t “given” to us by the establishment - mass movements forced the establishment to pass these policies. You just wrote that struggle, sacrifice, hardship and work of millions of people out of history. Really disgusting.
  • A reminder that these are not bots, trolls or “bros” — these are real people, and they will not be erased by your memes and misinformation

Watching old C-SPAN Bloomberg clips this morning. From a July 2003 event: "We are going to bring George W. Bush back for four more years, you have my word on that."

The Democratic establishment exists. Just ask the Bloomberg campaign for a list of who is on their payroll.

Being a Democrat (in every sense of that word) should mean accepting that whoever gets the most delegates should be the nominee. And whoever that is, we should work our asses off for them as a united coalition - otherwise Trump wins.
