He's angering a lot of people around the world. Jacob Slolworthy (INDEPENDENT) reports:
On Wednesday (8 January), Have I Got News for You panelist Ian Hislop, who edits satirical magazine Private Eye, appeared on Andrew Marr’s LBC show and questioned Musk’s intrusion into UK politics.
“He’s riddled with contradictions, and at some point I am hoping that even his followers will begin to notice that from sentence to sentence, he makes no sense,” he said.
“So when you get Musk pretending to be a champion of women and young girls, and then he calls Jess Phillips an ‘evil witch’ – I mean, how is that on a scale of medieval misogyny?”
Hislop complained that “it’s impossible to avoid” Musk’s misinformation as “he has enormous power” due to his wealth.
He also said that the X/Twitter owner’s reach is helped by “people who have been persuaded over the past five years or so that the mainstream media hasn’t covered any stories and that the only people who have noticed anything happening in the world are people sitting in their bedrooms and sending messages to each other”.
Donald Chump's creating enough global problems of his own (see Thursday's snapshot) and really can't afford co-president Musk for very much longer. Erik De La Garza (RAW STORY) reports:
The president of Panama is reportedly taking into consideration asking the United Nations Security Council to step in if Donald Trump continues his repeated demand that the United States regain control of the Panama Canal.
Trump has still not yet reached Inauguration Day, but his territorial ambitions have already sparked Panamanian President José Mulino to issue his own threat at the incoming American president, Politico reported, citing Panama’s former President Ernesto Balladares.
The Convicted Felon did not have a good Friday as he was declared a Convicted Felon by a court. The only sentence imposed was the shame of being known now and forever as a Convicted Felon. How trashy and how poorly his becoming president makes us look in the eyes of the world.
Not to mention what a money grubber Chump comes off as his broke ass tries to impress Musk, Mark Suckerberg and others. Michael Signorile (THE SIGNORILE REPORT) notes:
This week came the news from Mark Zuckerberg that META—Facebook, Instagram, and Threads—will end its fact-checking program.
Yes, the fact-checking that Donald Trump and MAGA didn’t like over the past eight years, put in place beginning in 2016 after Russian interference in our election. The fact-checking that continued—flawed and weak as it was—over the following years to fight the kind of misinformation that fed conspiracies like the Big Lie that helped fuel the attack on the Capitol in 2020.
"Mr. Zuckerberg, “the New York Times reports, “noted that 'recent elections also feel like a cultural tipping point towards once again prioritizing speech.'" The Times made clear that Zuckerberg’s moves—all his moves—are meant to placate Trump.
Last week, Mr. Zuckerberg elevated [Joel] Kaplan, a longtime conservative and the highest-ranking Meta executive closest to the Republican Party, to the company’s most senior policy role. And on Monday, Mr. Zuckerberg announced that Dana White, the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and a close ally of Mr. Trump’s, would join Meta’s board.
This claim about speech is an absolute travesty because promoting “free speech” is not the same as allowing unchecked misinformation. But also because Trump is not interested in free speech. He only wants his speech elevated while any negative news about him is squashed.
Mark Suckerberg. As we noted Friday, all hell was about to reign down on Suck as he announced and implemented a new policy for FACEBOOK that will promote hate speech and lies which he refused to acknowledge because he was too busy lying. Did Suck not grasp that he doesn't own FACEBOOK/META? He may be the largest single stockholder but he's answerable to the board and -- yes, FACEBOOK is a publicly traded company, one that sells itself as being positive and diverse -- the stockholders. Facts were never Suckerberg's strong suit. That's why he keeps showing up lying about 2020 and 'pressure' from Joe Biden. Joe Biden was a candidate in 2020. He didn't get elected until the end of 2020 and he didn't get sworn in until January 2021. We've been pointing this out forever -- most recently August 28th:
Meta's CEO aired his grievances in a letter Monday to the House Judiciary Committee in response to its investigation into content moderation on online platforms. Zuckerberg detailed how senior administration officials leaned on the company to censor certain posts about Covid-19, including humor and satire, and “expressed a lot of frustration” when the social media platform resisted.
In 2019, before the pandemic began, Facebook announced that they were looking to reduce the influence of anti-vaccination posts on their social media platform.
“We will reduce the ranking of groups and Pages that spread misinformation about vaccinations in News Feed and Search. These groups and Pages will not be included in recommendations or in predictions when you type into Search,” stated Facebook at the time.
“When we find ads that include misinformation about vaccinations, we will reject them. We also removed related targeting options, like ‘vaccine controversies.’ For ad accounts that continue to violate our policies, we may take further action, such as disabling the ad account.”
Facebook already downgrades any posts it doesn’t like the look of regarding the virus, but it’s apparently concerned that some of its users might still interact with the wrong content. It’s not Facebook users’ fault, you see, they’re just hapless plebs with not critical faculties of their own. Thankfully Facebook is on the case.
The social media giant’s VP of Integrity (an Orwellian job title if there ever was one), Guy Rosen, recently provided An Update on Our Work to Keep People Informed and Limit Misinformation About COVID-19. “We’re going to start showing messages in News Feed to people who have liked, reacted or commented on harmful misinformation about COVID-19 that we have since removed,” said Rosen.
Mark Zuckerberg’s shock choice to scrap fact-checking on Facebook and Instagram has sparked concern and outrage—including from inside the top ranks of the company.
Michael McConnell, co-chair of Meta’s Oversight Board, said in an interview Friday that the move looks like “buckling to political pressure.”
“I would have liked to have seen these reforms laid out in less contentious and partisan times, so that they would be considered on the merits rather than…Donald Trump is president and now they’re caving in,” McConnell told NPR.
According to him, neither he nor the board, an international group of experts in law, human rights and journalism, were not told about the new policy ahead of time.
Meta executives, however, allegedly informed Trump officials about the change in policy prior to the announcement, a source with knowledge of the conversations told the New York Times.
Again, a publicly traded company with a board of directors and a publicly traded company that's sold itself to shareholders as a company that respected diversity and was socially conscious.

In other news, MAGA Congress trash is preparing to attack the American people in order to reward billionaires like Mark Suckerberg and Elon Musk. David Badash notes:
House Republicans are circulating a “menu” of options that Speaker Mike Johnson’s conference could chose from—reportedly a massive $5 trillion worth of federal government programs to put on the chopping block to pay for the President-elect’s promised priorities, including tax cuts and border security.
According to Politico, there is an “early list” of proposed cuts (below) that “includes changes to Medicare and ending Biden administration climate programs, along with slashing welfare and ‘reimagining’ the Affordable Care Act.” Also, in addition to suggesting cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare), “the document floats clawing back bipartisan infrastructure and Inflation Reduction Act funding.”
Politico also reports that Republicans appear to be considering cuts to “the country’s largest anti-hunger program”—or, SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program formerly known as food stamps. This would “spark massive opposition from Democrats and would also face some GOP resistance.”

I thought about including something in that but I'll do it now. Kat's "Patti and Luther" noted the Luther Vandross documentary and some people slamming Patti. Kat asked for a comment from me for that post and here's what I stated:
Patti is not a homophobe. Nona Hendryx is gay and, long before she came out, Patti knew that and it was never a problem for Patti. Patti was there for Laura Nyro during a difficult time and she remained friends with Laura. Laura dated men early on but learned she was was really attracted to woman. That change never changed Patti's love for her friend. I haven't seen the documentary and I don't know who this Richard Marx is -- I'm assuming it's not the White singer-songwriter of the 80s -- but he actually seems the homophobe based on what you read me. Luther was gay. That was not a secret in the industry. And it is part of the reason Luther died so early. By that I mean, he did not feel he could be who he was. He did not feel he would be accepted. And that was because he was gay and that was because he was sometimes overweight. Someone like Sam Smith has more confidence and they know who they are and share who they are. Luther had too much weight on his shoulders because there were too many things that he felt could drive fans away. He had a wonderful voice and, if he were coming up today, it could be different and he might not torture himself over his weight or who he loved. Patti was Luther's friend and she loved him dearly. Richard Marx is the homophobe. He's the one appalled that Patti is talking about Luther the person and about the impact this all had on him. She's continuing to be Luther's friend. Richard Marx sounds like someone who would prefer to bury Luther in a closet.
I should have noted that Nona, along with the late Sarah Dash, was part of Labelle with Patti -- their monster hit being "Lady Marmalade." I was speaking off the top of my head. Again, if you take a step back and pay attention, Patti's done nothing wrong. She spoke truth about Luther -- and spoke with no hate or shame -- who she loved and he was already dead. There was no reason for him, in death, to stay in the closet. The attacks on Patti this were outrageous and shameful Again, she's not a homophobe and she has years and years of lived experience to back that up.
