PRENSA LATINA notes:


The United States embassy in Baghdad was bombarded with three rockets that triggered the anti-aircraft system, avoiding great damage.

The authorities have not yet reported whether there were victims or material damage, although the staff was moved to safer places.

On January 5th, five Grad rockets hit the US base in Ain al-Assad, Al-Anbar province, while a convoy in transit to support US soldiers in Babel was stopped by a roadside explosive device.

Attacks took place previously on a road between Muthana and the south of the country against two other logistical convoys belonging to the Pentagon-led international alliance. 


Attacks all around as RUDAW reports:


A drone attack against an Iraqi military air base was foiled early Saturday, according to Iraq's Security Media Cell.

"In early Saturday, three drones approached the southern perimeter of Balad Air Base in Salahadin province," read a statement from the Cell, reported state media. “The drones were seen with the naked eye by the force charged with protecting the outer towers, making sure that they were enemy planes.” 

The Cell added that the three drones flew away after being fired at by the Iraqi forces. 


Laylil Shakir (RUDAW) reports that Iraqis are commenting on these attacks.  Those commenting include cleric and politician Ammar al-Hakim who Tweeted that the attacks "might bring a storm upon the sovereignty of the state and destabilize its world public image."  In response to Friday's grenade attack in Baghdad on the Taqaddum party's headquarters, former prime minister and forever thugh Nouri al-Maliki released a statement:

On politics, there's still no prime minister in Iraq.  Journalist Sardar Sattar Tweets:



 Muqtada al-Sadr and Hadi al-Ameri are in a meeting now.
