Iraqi Spring MC reports that Sheikh Adnan al-Hasanian spoke today to protesters in Amiriyah and was very critical of the government because of its hostility to the Iraqi people. What's he talking about? You'd need a functioning press in the west to know that and we don't have that. Dropping back to yesterday's snapshot:
Kitabat reports that tribal leaders in Dhi Qar have signed a letter apologizing to activists. For what? For Nouri's "abusive verbal attack" on them. Nouri gave a little speech where he called the peaceful activists lawless rebels and threatened to use force against them. Peaceful protests have been going on across Iraq, peaceful protests against Nouri, since December.
They aren't the only ones condemning Nouri for those remarks. NINA notes that Osama al-Nujaifi's party has condemned the remarks and called for Nouri to stop verbally attacking demonstrators and return to Baghdad to oversea security issues. Osama al-Nujaifi is part of the Iraqiya political slate but this was his Motahedoon Coalition issuing the condemnation. Iraqiya also condemned the remarks. Maysoun al-Damlouji, Iraqiya spokesperson, is quoted by NINA stating, "Describing our honorable people who peacefully demonstrate across Iraq demanding their legitimate rights as conspirators is the ugliest words you can use against the oppressed people." Iraqiya MP Ahmed al-Alwani added that Nouri's attacks on demonstrators "incite sectarian strife."
Even Nouri's new bride Saleh al-Mutlaq is calling out the remarks leading Kitabat to wonder if the honeymoon is over for Nouri and Saleh or if this is just more propaganda from Saleh in an attempt to boost the votes for the National Dialogue Front?
See, Iraqi outlets can report what's going on. For some reason the BBC, AP, AFP, et al can't or just won't. It's probably the latter. I would assume if Barack Obama gave a speech and the audience began chanting "Liar! Liar!" -- that would be all over the news. But when it happens to Nouri, even those filing don't bother to include it. They can go on PRI and whore for Nouri. We saw that yesterday. That's why I said nothing and just offered that link (at the request of a PRI friend who pointed out that even though it was bad -- yes, PRI knew it was bad as well before I said a word -- it was more than NPR was doing).
Nouri launches verbal attacks on protesters and the response spreads across Iraq and includes his speech being stopped with cries of "liar" but AFP doesn't think that's news. Not even worthy of a Tweet apparently.
Are you starting to get that the western media doesn't want to tell you what's happening in Iraq?
Your first clue to that is that the protests passed the 100 day mark two weeks ago but does the media care. More people are participating than did in Egypt's Tahrir Square. But the western media just doesn't care. The media lied about Iraq before the illegal war started. Dexter Filkins and other filth lied about it in the early days to keep it going. Why the hell would you assume that the western media was now telling the truth about Iraq? I mean how many times are you going to be lied to and duped? At this point it's on you if you're foolish enough to trust that the western media's going to tell the truth about Iraq.
That's demonstrators in Adhamiya today where the Minister of Justice was called out for his public statements that he will continue to carry out death sentences. Reuters and AFP note that mortars claimed 7 lives and left twelve people injured in Khales.
At that point, the people were protesters and both wire agencies miss that police fired in the air, points Iraqi Spring MC can cover. Iraqi Spring MC also reports that activists at the Hawija sit-in were targeted by Nouri's forces and three were injured.
Iraqi Spring MC notes that travel into Baghdad was cut off by government forces, the same was true in Hawija and in Samarra (where forces also shot at people trying to enter and they confiscated banners) and that protesters in Falluja are demanding the release of those Nouri's forces arrested for trying to enter the city. In Baiji, Nouri's forces lied about a bombing to clear the area.
National Iraqi News Agency reports that in Mosul, Sheikh Salem al-Jubouri dubbed Nouri's verbal attack on protesters "nonsense remarks" when the Sheikh addressed the demonstrators today. They also note thousands turned out in Ramadi and Falluja and that, in Ramadi, Sheikh Mustafa Karbouli has called for a Monday action.
Alsumaria notes 1 of Nouri's Tigris Operation Forces is dead in Hawija. The forces attacked the protesters and some man (who may or may not have been part of the protests) darted into a home under construction, emerged with a gun and shot dead one of Nouri's forces as the protesters staging the sit-in were being attacked. Trust me, if the western media covers anything to do with the protests today, it will be that and they will blame the protesters. Alsumaria also notes that a bombing targeted Moqtada al-Sadr's office in Kirkuk and left eight people injured, a Samarra roadside bombing claimed 2 lives, a Mosul bombing left three Iraqi military officers injured,
Now for some site business. If Yvette Jackson writes one more time, I'm calling her out here and I'm providing her e-mail address. Stop clogging up the e-mail account with your garbage. You have a complaint, make it. You want something highlighted request it. That's once and then move along. We have a ton of stuff that is not getting noted in the e-mail account. I didn't know it. I hit the public and private accounts in the morning and try to read at least 100 in both. This week I've been too busy to go through it at other times. Shirley and Martha have done the bulk of the work for which I say thank you. Last night they told me there was a huge pile up.
That's because people like Yvette and Roger Helbig are among those clogging it up with repeat e-mails. Those who repeat e-mail will not be read. I have deleted all of your e-mails after marking you as spam so you'll go in the spam folder (which is usually deleted without being checked -- luck of the draw if your e-mail accidentally hits that account -- Yvette and Roger will go there now on purpose).
There was an alert about a Tuesday hearing on the veterans budget. That's among the many things that we missed. If there's a press release on that, we'll note it. I'll see if there's any press coverage and try to include it. But we missed the hearing. We don't have time for this nonsense. People who abuse the public account we'll move straight to spam from now on. There are serious issues and serious requests that are being missed because some people think nothing of e-mailing the public account 30 and more times in a single day.
