Iraq slammed by violence

Iraq was again slammed today with violence.  The death toll is in the double digits, the incidents all across Iraq.  National Iraqi News Agency reports a Baquba bombing claimed the life of 1 life and left another injured, a police officer was shot in front of his Kirkuk home (injured, not dead), a Baghdad car bombing claimed 9 lives and left thirty-four injured, a "string of Baghdad bombings" (in addition to the car bombing) claimed 13 lives and left forty-five injured, a Mosul car bombing claimed 1 life and left twenty-two injured, an armed attack in Falluja left 1 man dead "and his mother and a child wounded," an Aneh bombing claimed the life of 1 police officer and left two injured, 1 police officer was shot dead in Mosul and another left injured, a Raswa bombing claimed the life of 1 police officer and left two more injured, an armed attack in Mosul claimed the life of 1 police officer and left another injured, a Mosul roadside bombing left three people injured, another Mosul roadside bombing claimed the life of 1 police person and left three people injured, a Baquba bombing left two police officers injured,  another Mosul bombing claimed the lives of 3 Iraqi soldiers and left two other people injured, and a Tikrit bombing claimed the lives of 2 Iraqi soldiers and left another injured.

Sameer N. Yacoub (AP) counts 46 dead.  AFP counts 65. Iraq Body Count counts 49 and, through today, counts 584 violent deaths for the month thus far.

In other disturbing news, NINA reports Nouri had the army raid Badush Prison at dawn in Nineveh Province and that a prison source "explained that the inspections included all sections including the women's and events' prison, noting that those forces warned prisoners from the use of any of these arms and machines and mobile devices inside the compound. The source did not mention if these things had been confiscated or not."

Here's the question about the violence: When it reaches 2007 proportions (John Drake said earlier this week that this month might be there), does anyone pay attention?

I don't mean AP, AFP, Reuters and CNN who are covering it (Mohammed Tawfeeq covers the day's violence here).  But the other outlets that long ago ran away from Iraq?  Do they come back to Iraq?  Even for a week?  Or do they just continue to ignore Iraq?

It'll be worth watching to see which path the western media chooses.
