Exit strategy?

I don't think we're writing about Robert Parry at THIRD -- Ava and I worked in a note in our TV piece -- a single sentence -- when we heard the news.

So let's note him here.

Robert Parry took on many important stories, he was a real reporter.  He tried to play it fair always.  There aren't many like that and there weren't many in his generation.

His work mattered.

His life mattered.

He has passed away (on Saturday) and I'm sure his family mourns him tremendously.

Most of us didn't have a relationship with Robert Parry other than reader.

But as readers, we realized that he had a great deal to offer.

We usually agreed with Robert, we sometimes strongly disagreed.

That's the nature of life and the nature of reality -- as opposed to fan clubbery.

His work online and CONSORTIUM NEWS made more of a difference than did THE PROGRESSIVE magazine (and its online content) during the same time.  In fact, almost any year of CONSORTIUM NEWS produced more important content than THE PROGRESSIVE has done in the last 15 years.

He mattered.

His work mattered.

That's something we'll be lucky to have said about any of us.

That it can be said so easily of Robert Parry goes to how important he was.

Onto Iraq . . .

Michael O'Hanlon: "Here we are in Iraq having largely defeated the Islamic State... now we have to help Iraq get stable so it's not as vulnerable to Iranian adventurism."

When?

When do we get to leave?

Supposedly, after the fall of Baghdad, US troops have had to remain in Iraq to get it stable or help it stay stable (remember the trainers Barack left behind at the end of 2011 -- excuse me, 'trainers').

When does the Iraq War end?

Or did the death of Tom Laughlin (2013) mean that talk of exit strategies died with him?

Tom was one of the few to repeatedly raise that issue.

Michael O'Hanlon's been selling the Iraq War since before it started.

He continues to sell it almost 15 years later.

What's the exit strategy?

When does the Iraq War end?

These are basic questions and they're questions everyone should be asking.

Isaiah's THE WORLD TODAY JUST NUTS "Hillary Speaks For Victims" and "Mira On Her High Horse" went up earlier today.

New content should be going up at THIRD.
