And the winners were

Let's note some of the winners that the community was rooting for.

Best Picture:

12 Years A Slave

8 readers of Third had picked that as their choice

Best Actress:

Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine

Trina had picked Blanchett in her "Oscar food in the Kitchen" post

Best Actor:

Matthew. McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club

Kat's choice was "Matthew McConaughey"

Best Director:

Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity

Stan selected  "Alfonso Cuaron for Best Director"

Best Supporting Actress:

Lupita Nyong'o, 12 Years a Slave

4 readers of Third picked Nyong'o as did Rebecca in "'i'm rooting for julia roberts ..."

Best Animated Feature:

Frozen

The choice of Mike and Elaine's daughter, "Best Documentary"

Best Costume Design:

Catherine Martin for The Great Gatsby

Ruth's pick, "I hope Catherine Martin wins Sunday night"

Best Original Song:

"Let It Go" (Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, Frozen)

Third's pick, "Best Original Song"

Other winners included Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) for Best Supporting Actor,  Spike Jonze (Her) for Best Original Screenplay,  John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) for Best Adapted Screenplay. and The Great Beauty for Best Foreign Feature.  For a complete list of winners, click here.

To be clear, I didn't pick anyone at Third or here.   I'm noting this due to the awards themselves.  Especially after weeks of no programming on television with the exception of Fox while the other two networks looked like cheap ass Hampton Inn and Days Inn engaging in price fixing on room rates as they refused to counter-program for the month of February.

And for those wondering about our Academy Award theme at Third:

  • Editorial: And the award for ugliest despot on the...
  • TV: Another idiot for the idiot box
  • The award for best self-created drama goes to Mia ...
  • The Oscars
  • This edition's playlist
  • Best Actress
  • Best Original Song
  • Best Original Screenplay

  • Community picks for tonight's awards

  •  or why I'm noting this here?

The Winter Olympics was slammed down Americans throats and that's why the following posts went up last week:

"Bruce Dern is my pick," "Alfonso Cuaron for Best Director," "I hope Catherine Martin wins Sunday night," "Best Documentary," "i'm rooting for julia roberts ...," "Best Actress: Judi Dench," "The Missing Picture," "Bradley Cooper," "Oscar food in the Kitchen," "Leonardo" and "Matthew McConaughey"

If they're going to force feed the country the Olympics, the feeling was that, in this community, we'd build up the Academy Awards because the arts matter.
