"The type of attitude that Mayor Pete is exhibiting here is in fact elitist in itself."
  • This reads like dialogue from Robocop.

"We're helping people understand this isn't just another vote, it's not just another election. This is an unprecedented time in politics where we have to show up for what we believe in." -
  • Facts: - Under ' Medicare for All plan, your health care coverage can never be taken away from you. - Under the current corporate-run system, your healthcare coverage can be instantly eliminated, and you have no right to get it back.

Huh why did they leave out this part of the quote

  • It’s almost as if lots of people understandably hate the current corporate-run system that threatens them with bankruptcy anytime they get sick.
  • Something to think about: most polls show a majority support Medicare for All, even tho pollsters often only tell respondents negative messages (“eliminates your private insurance”) and don’t tell them positive messages (“guarantees you get to keep your same doctor & is cheaper”)
  • You’ve just described half of Northwest Washington, DC
  • Examples of donor-endorsed things that are legitimately scary: - Climate denialism - Plans that would let thousands of people continue to die every year because they lack health insurance
  • You: “Wow, ha ha, you really sound scared of [INSERT CANDIDATE USING GOP TALKING POINTS TO SHILL FOR THEIR BIG DONORS].” Me: “Yes.”
  • Personal admission: I have a very low tolerance for bullshitters and bullshit — especially the bullshit that we’re expected to pretend is not bullshit, but everyone clearly knows is complete bullshit. Interestingly, this character trait was helpful to me in my journalism work.

I know Pete Buttigieg opposes tuition-free college & eliminating student debt only because he truly cares about poor people. I know this because Pete took a momentary break from raising Wall Street money to tell me this. I am a smart person.
  • Bernie in 2017: Supported a negotiated first step toward the ultimate goal of tuition-free college for all. Pete 2020: Running an explicit scorched earth campaign against the idea of tuition-free college for all. Pete today with a straight face: These are the same!
  • Private equity firms kill communities with layoffs & fuel climate change with fossil fuel investments. DC lawmakers block efforts to stop this destruction. State/local officials make it worse by funneling public workers’ savings into private equity firms. This is a scandal.

South Bend is far from alone in struggling with school segregation. But to lead a city and not even be aware of this issue is unacceptable.
  • A reminder that the top 1% ALONE has more than enough wealth to fully fund a Green New Deal that is probably the last best hope for us to halt the catastrophic climate change that threatens all life on the planet.

Nothing is more elitist than parroting Insurance industry talking points to drive millions of people into bankruptcy, scapegoating immigrants, protecting tech billionaires in a way that hurts small business, while hiding behind corporate NDAs and courting big corporate money.

Mayor Pete says he will keep the $60,000 in McKinsey donations even after learning about its complicity in immigration detention
  • Worth adding: If you aren’t similarly frightened by such candidates, then you aren’t paying attention, you are being actively enriched by the status quo and/or you are so consumed by the game of politics that you’ve lost touch with how much is really on the line in this election.
  • Personal admission: Yes, I fear any 2020 candidate who: - Is bankrolled by the billionaires & Wall St execs that are destroying the world - Opposes guaranteeing health care as a human right - Opposes a Green New Deal to halt a climate crisis that threatens all life on Earth
  • Agreed, and your candidate wrote this: “(Sanders’) energy, candor, conviction & ability to bring people together stand against the current of opportunism, moral compromise & partisanship which runs rampant on the American political scene.”
  • This is a line from the campaign whose McKinsey candidate wants you to believe that blocking tuition-free college is the best way to help poor people. I give these folks credit: they are good at saying genuinely absurd things with a straight face. That takes real skill.
  • that sense of deep existential dread when you realize the final stretch of the presidential primary campaign will be dominated by the kind of McKinsey-style propaganda which pretends that blocking stuff like tuition-free college is truly the best way to help poor people
  • No, to follow this logic you’d have to believe Wall Street wants to stop ’ college-for-all plan, Wall St donors then gave big cash to Buttigieg, and then Buttigieg obediently began airing an ad attacking Bernie’s plan. Which, of course, is exactly what happened. 👇🏻

The big banks sponsoring the Saudi Aramco public offering are making possible the "biggest one-time infusion of capital into the fossil fuel industry" in history. That would be , , etc

Hold McKinsey accountable for profiting on human misery and facilitating Trump’s hateful treatment of asylum seekers that has produced so much suffering and death. McKinsey should never receive another government contract here or anywhere else.
  • Joe Biden leaving his “No Malarkey” tour for a high-dollar fundraiser with a donor named Rich Richman is a little too on the nose

Biden has now left his "No Malarky" tour of Iowa twice for high-dollar fundraisers. "Don't touch the Rothko!" joked private-equity baron Alan Patricof at one last night, according to the pool report. Haha!

Confused why some Democratic candidates are attacking Medicare for All? Look at the millions that the Partnership for America’s Health Care Future & other dark money groups have poured into Iowa on negative ads. We have economics on our side. We are up against special interests.

For what it's worth, Buttigieg denigrated student protestors agitating for higher wages for Harvard staff workers as "social justice warriors" in his memoirs. (h/t )
  • Whomst among us does not love a system that will instantly bankrupt your family if you or a loved one gets sick?

Just last week dropped another piece on the ongoing investigation of the murder of Eric Logan by a South Bend officer. The investigation is expected to conclude by Feb just as voters are starting to cast ballots. Where is the scrutiny?
