Iraq: Protesters flood Baghdad on first anniv. of "October revolution"

Thousands of Iraqis participated in a demonstration in the capital city of Baghdad, on Thursday to mark the anniversary of what they called an "October revolution." People walked through the streets near the Tahrir Square carrying Iraqi flags, signs and chanting slogans. "On the occasion of the 'October Revolution,' we women of Baghdad held an annual march in remembrance of the martyrs. We informed people about our desire to meet our demands. We have not seen any change in the current government, just simple decisions to silence people, and we have not seen a big change," explained Zahraa, a woman taking part in the march. The "October revolution" is the name given by demonstrators to mass anti-government protests, which began in October last year demanding better public services, more jobs and the end to corruption.
