Fund the police? Really?

Friend,

After years of calls from activists to defund the police, President Biden has decided to speak out about his plan … to “fund the police.”

The so-called “Safer America Plan” gives billions of dollars to law enforcement, while doing nothing to address the issues police cause in our communities like brutality, the extrajudicial killings of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people with impunity, and the militarized over-policing of our communities.

We can think of much better ways to spend $37 billion.

In a speech in Pennsylvania yesterday, President Biden remarked that police are expected to be psychologists, protectors, sociologists, etc. Well, here’s a thought: instead of expecting law enforcement to be armed psychologists and sociologists, how about, we take some of the money we're paying cops and hire some actually trained psychologists?

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: the police aren’t solving our problems—they’re creating them. True justice is transforming a system that does not think twice about senselessly taking Black lives, and defunding those who continue to oppress us.

Hip Hop Caucus is fighting to create a system of policing that isn’t based on racism, violence, and white supremacy. Our campaigns, like Respect My Vote, leverages the collective power of Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities to hold law enforcement accountable.

When we say defund the police, we mean it. Hip Hop Caucus is advocating for new systems that protect and serve the people, and we’re going to continue calling on the Biden administration to do the same. Chip in and join our movement! >>
