Straight white dude here with a fresh #bros take and I DEMAND to be taken seriously. I sat in a completely empty theater, courtesy of a lady that left 20 minutes in, seemingly disgusted with what she was watching. Welcome to SC, I guess.

What I saw was the thing I'd been asking for: A Judd Apatow production with a razor sharp script that, instead of meandering about, feels focused. And boy did it deliver. So many great jokes. Jim Rash and Debra Messing alone make it worth the trip.

The only "shocking" scenes in this movie would only be shocking if you've never seen virtually any other Apatow work, or another R-rated comedy for that matter.

Luke Macfarlane, a Hallmark vet that I've had the privilege of interviewing (as gracious and kind as you'd imagine) is just fantastic in a film that, without him anchoring it, could've easily floated off in a sea of one-liners and bits.

I won't speculate on why it did so poorly at the box office. I feel like I know why but it's just a feeling. My friend and podcast co-host @aduralde already nailed that take here: https://t.co/Nv2bHbfcDu

The movie will have a long run in streaming, Eichner & co should be nothing but proud. The only thing that angers me about box office performance is the possibility of it adding another bullet to the already loaded guns of those trying to suppress content (and people) like this.

BROS does a lot of things right, chief among them making the simplest case that no one should have a corner on the great pleasures and celebrations of life: Garth Brooks, R-rated comedies, and yeah even love.

So go see it in a theater and be a part of that celebration, and in doing so you'll help take an unneeded proverbial bullet out of a bigoted gun.
