Kat: Friday brought good news in the music world with the release of SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL
What's SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL? 13 tracks of joy.
Also, the ninth studio album from Miley Cyrus.
And it's something to behold. A summer treat. Full of life and sunshine and rain and everything a summer should be. Following a spoken word track, the album moves into "Something Beautiful."
Tell me something beautiful, yeah, tonight
Until your lips turn blue
Said I don't wanna talk about it for too long
Baby, now I think I do
It starts out with confidence and it never lets up even when we move from the soft assured pace of the verses into choruses that recall the world of grunge.
And what's summer -- there can't be summer -- without some romance or at the very least a crush. This is covered in "End Of The World."
The lyrics are highly visual and tis album is part of a multi-media project with the film SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL due out next Friday, June 6th.
I have no idea what they're going to throw up on screen, but what Miley's thrown down musically is already visual enough to fuel an entire summer with memories. It's the perfect album for driving, the perfect album for dancing, for a summer party, for . . .
It's perfect.
Miley Ray Cyrus.
I honest to God thought that was her name back in her child acting days. After ENDLESS SUMMER and now SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL, you better believe I don't make that mistake anymore.
She's a very good singer, yes, but she's grown into much more than that, she's a legitimate artist.
And "Easy Lover" and "More To Lose" and "Pretend You're God" etc? These are tracks to savor, tracks that make you get up and dance and immediately enter your system and imprint on you.
End of the month Friday is pay bills for me. Maybe for you too?
And it's not one of those rough years where I'm paying off Visa with Master Card. But that doesn't mean I like paying bills. I had the TV on YOUTUBE and YOUTUBE on autoplay going from song to song. And I was getting very frustrated with the Visa I have from AMAZON PRIME because how many times do you have to say "Make a payment!" and how loud do you have to get saying/screaming it, before the automated system moves to that option?
And are my fingers not working? I check the phone screen and, yes, I did press "2" so why haven't you advanced me to the option I'm requesting? -- a question I ask/yell with many more words and much more passion.
If you were at my place, you'd think I was on the phone with a human being the way I argue this time of month as I try to pay bills.
That's "Golden Burning Sun" and it's what YOUTUBE's auto play served up in the midst of my yelling match with the automated systems of payment. I wasn't even aware it was playing, I was cursing out AI so loudly. At some point, I'd stopped pacing and arguing and was swaying around to this song before I realized it. Once I did, I had to immediately check the screen to find out what the name of the song was.
It's an album that seeps into you. One you want to live with. Song for song, track for track, this is first rate.
When a Stevie Wonder or a Fiona Apple, a Prince or a Lauryn Hill comes along, it shakes the world and it raises the mark for everyone working around them. Miley's become that kind of artist. And with SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL, she's not just upping the ante, she's holding the winning hand.
