Chump destroys the economy, Junior destroys health, and MOTHER JONES destroys the work of women to give credit to men

That's from last night's ALL IN WITH CHRIS HAYES.  Twenty eight minutes and fifty seven seconds into the video, US House Rep Robert Garcia joins Chris and discusses Chump's ongoing Epstein scandal.  Jeffrey Epstein is the convicted pedophile and sex trafficker who was also Donald Chump's bestie dating back to the late 80s.  During Chump's first term, Epstein was convicted, went to prison and died there in what was ruled a suicide.  His partner in crime Ghislaine Maxwell went on the run to evade an arrest warrant and was eventually discovered hiding in her Bradford, New Hampshire mansion (one of several she owns, according to court records).  She was found guilty in court and sentenced to twenty years.  However, in what may be an attempt to buy her silence, Donald Chump had her moved to a cushy prison -- that's not supposed to accept sex offenders -- and has floated a pardon for her in public.

Chris notes that US Speaker of the Closet Mike Johnson shut down the session in Congress in the hopes that when they returned in September everyone would have forgotten about Chump's Epstein & Maxwell connections.  Did it work?  Robert says no.

"This upcoming week," Garcia informed, "we have actually many of the victims of Epstein coming to Capitol Hill.  We're meeting with them.  They're talking to lawmakers.  We're going to highlight their stories.  We've got to center these victims  I'll just say, one other piece of news --  that actually just developed in the last couple hours 00  is we finally got word from the Epstein estate. They're going to  be providing the actual Epstein book, that famous book with that note that Donald Trump drew and doodled to Jeffrey Epstein, his so-called best friend of 10 to 15 years.  The estate is actually going to actually now get us that book and a bunch of other documents that they have that's actually not been reported yet. Reporting here for the first time. We're gonna get those documents, as we understand it now, on September the 8th. And so that will continue our investigation.  And again, we ask the question, where are the rest of the documents? What is Pam Bondi hiding? What is Donald Trump hiding? End the cover-up. Let’s get to the truth."

In other Epstein scandal news, OK reports:

An inmate at Ghislaine Maxwell's "cushy" new prison has found herself abruptly transferred to a high-security facility after criticizing the convicted s-- trafficker in an interview.

Julie Howell, currently serving a one-year sentence for theft, faced the consequences for calling Maxwell "disgusting" in her comments to a British newspaper earlier this month, according to a report.

Howell was removed from Federal Prison Camp, Bryan in Texas, where conditions are considerably better, after voicing her opinion.

Howell's lawyer, Patrick McClain, disclosed that prison warden Dr. Tanisha Hall summoned the 44-year-old Texas native into her office, sparking the swift transfer. "You've ruined my weekend," Hall reportedly stated, expressing frustration about her phone being inundated with calls over the controversy.

The transfer happened so quickly that Howell did not have time to grab her medication or glasses. She now resides in the Federal Detention Center in Houston, known for its violent inmates and far harsher conditions.

Howell's outspokenness stems from personal experience; a family member is a victim of s-- trafficking, the very crime for which Maxwell received a 20-year sentence.

Turning to Chump's attack on public health, Crazy Quack Junior is not fit to be Secretary of Health and Human Services.  As we noted in Friday's snapshot, Senator Patty Murray has called for him to be fired:

Senator Murray: “If there are any adults left in the White House, it’s well past time they face reality… We cannot let RFK Jr. burn what’s left of the CDC and our other critical health agencies to the ground—he must be fired.”

Senator Murray at July 9, 2025 HELP markup of Monarez nomination: “We could actually have the best CDC director in the world, and it wouldn’t change the fact that we have a person leading HHS who is an anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist—and a Committee that I fear is failing to do its bipartisan, public oversight of public health disasters… I really do hope that Dr. Monarez will defy my expectations, I hope she will stand up for science, and put public health first.” – MORE HERE

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member and former chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement in response to Director Susan Monarez’s public statement regarding RFK Jr.’s attempts to weaponize public health and put the lives of the American people at risk and the abrupt resignation of senior officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“I had serious doubts about Director Monarez’s willingness to stand up against RFK Jr.’s personal mission to destroy public health in America—I’m glad to say that I was wrong.

“Susan Monarez’s willingness to stand up for science and protect the integrity of the CDC is commendable and deeply important—however, it only further underscores the reality at HHS: Director Monarez is not the problem, RFK Jr. is. If there are any adults left in the White House, it’s well past time they face reality and fire RFK Jr. He is a dangerous man who is determined to abuse his authority to act on truly terrifying conspiracy theories and disinformation—leaving us unprepared for the next deadly pandemic and snuffing out potential cures while he’s at it. He has already taken utterly reckless steps to dismantle our public health infrastructure, and he has even undermined President Trump’s own legacy of helping establish access to lifesaving vaccines through groundbreaking mRNA research.

“Further we should all be deeply disturbed by the resignation of highly qualified CDC officials whose work quite literally saves lives. It will be an extremely frightening world if the CDC is hollowed out and its ranks filled only by conspiracy theorists that RFK Jr. agrees with. RFK Jr. comes into conflict with every credible researcher, scientist, or doctor because he lives in his own unhinged world of anti-vaccine disinformation—our current trajectory is not tenable. We need serious people working at CDC and across HHS.

“We cannot let RFK Jr. burn what’s left of the CDC and our other critical health agencies to the ground—he must be fired. I hope my Republican colleagues who have come to regret their vote to confirm RFK Jr. will join me in calling for his immediate termination from office.”

Today, Senator Bernie Sanders also called for Junior to go.

He wants Junior to resign.  Narcissists rarely heed the calls of others.  Even so, Senator Lisa Murkowski is also calling for Junior to resign.  David McAfee (RAW STORY) notes the reaction to her call was FAFO, people blasting her for ignoring these very real problems that were known of ahead of his confirmation vote, then going ahead and voting for him and now Lisa wants to act surprised by what he's doing in the post she helped put him in?

He was never qualified for the job.  This week, that became clear to even those who had bought time shares in The Land of Denial.  Lena H. Sun, Lauren Weber and David Ovalle (WASHINGTON POST) report:

Senior officials resigned this week from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, revolting against efforts to upend U.S. vaccine policy that they warned could lead to resurgences of preventable disease. But months of upheaval at the agency have already undercut its work to shield Americans from harm, officials and public health experts said, with the worst possibly yet to come.

Under the Trump administration, the agency has slashed billions in funding, shed hundreds of employees and rolled back programs to help Americans quit smoking and to prevent infant and maternal deaths, including support for monitoring sudden unexpected infant deaths. Funding for programs to prevent drowning, youth violence and sexual assault is in limbo, while they are under review by the U.S. DOGE Service.

The consequences of some of these cuts have been muted or delayed because they have yet to take effect or have been halted by courts. But public health workers and experts say the CDC’s troubles could grow worse as the agency loses career staff who could intervene. And they say a bigger crisis in credibility is already unfolding.

“I never have seen an instance of an advanced, affluent country with among the finest scientific resources and leaders in the world be under assault, not from small pockets of the public or people who have unusual beliefs, but from the government itself,” said Allan M. Brandt, a public health historian at Harvard University. “This has just been radically unprecedented.”

Millions of Americans are at risk because of the destruction to the public health system.  Jack Silvers (DAILY BEAST) explains how Chump and Junior are already harming one couple:

An ultra-conservative radio host attacked Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Thursday and said that his sick wife is unable to receive a COVID-19 vaccination because of the HHS Secretary’s policies.

Erick Erickson, an influential conservative talk show host, re-posted a New York Times article about declining availability for the COVID vaccine at pharmacies and said his wife is one of the people affected.

“My wife has Stage 4 lung cancer. She is one of the people the COVID vaccine actually helps,” he wrote. “Thanks to the current mess at HHS, CVS is unable to get her the vaccine.”

In response to comments criticizing his take, Erickson further explained his wife’s predicament and sharpened his criticism of Secretary Kennedy.

“Just for all the people chiming in ignorantly, the vaccine does not prevent COVID for my wife, but it greatly minimizes the impact of the virus,” he explained. “It’s the difference between symptoms amounting to a runny nose and being bedridden for a prolonged period of time.”

By the way, it's distressing to see MOTHER JONES -- run by two women -- run a lie -- a LIE -- by a woman  -- Inae Oh -- that makes Bernie the leader on this issue.

He's not calling for Junior to be fired.  He's also showing up days after Senator Patty Murray has already taken a stand.  THE MOTHER JONES article omits Patty.  The snapshot runs in the morning here Monday through Friday unless it's a holiday.  We noted Parry's statements in Friday's snapshot which means she made them at least on Thursday.  Her office wasn't open for Friday business before the snapshot went up that morning.

But it wasn't even Thursday.  She made them Wednesday:

Senator Murray Calls for Immediate Firing of RFK Jr., Commends CDC Director Monarez’s Stand for Science and Public Health

Senator Murray: “If there are any adults left in the White House, it’s well past time they face reality… We cannot let RFK Jr. burn what’s left of the CDC and our other critical health agencies to the ground—he must be fired.”

It is 2025.  MOTHER JONES is run by two women and the idiot Inae Oh is a woman.  She's a woman we will NEVER link to because I don't support bitches.

Inae Oh builds her article around Bernie and includes a Friday Tweet from Minority Leader Chuck Schumer calling for Junior to be fired.

Patty Murray led on this issue.  To pretend otherwise is to lie.

For three women to work at MOTHER JONES -- to work at denying Patty her credit, at rendering a woman invisible, is just disgusting.

I can't believe that after 20 years of being online I'm still having to make these arguments.

But there is your answer.  Drive-bys who whine constantly that I don't highlight enough press releases from male members of Congress.  In the snapshot, I try to work in at least one press release.  Sometimes I don't -- don't have the time or don't have the space.  Sometimes there's more than one.  But the first place I look when trying to put one in the snapshot is always Senator Patty Murray.  She's the first one for a number of reasons.  She's a workhorse and she gets the job done.  When we were covering Senate Veterans Affairs Committee hearings while she was Chair, we always got sent press releases to make sure nothing on veterans was missed.  If Patty doesn't have anything or anything that I think we really need to highlight, I then go to Senator Elizabeth Warren's site, I also regularly check Senators Tammy Baldwin, Sheldon Whitehouse, Ron Wyden and Mazie Hirano.

There is no excuse for MOTHER JONES to ignore Patty's role in this.

I am done with Inae Oh because I don't trust her.  I don't trust any woman who stabs women in the back.  She's a bitch in my book.  We work hard enough and for so little credit that it's bad enough when a man refuses to credit our work but when another woman does that -- a woman who presumably knows how often we are robbed of our credit, I just don't have time for you.

Back to the news, when not screwing up everything else, Chump makes time to continue to destroy the economy.  Alex Henderson notes:

President Donald Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick continue to insist that his steep new tariffs will ultimately lead to a manufacturing renaissance in the United States. But countless economists, both left and right, are warning that the tariffs will hurt both businesses and consumers by making a wide range of goods much more expensive — from coffee to electronics to construction materials.

In an op-ed published by the Washington Post on August 29, Green Bay, Wisconsin-based Sachin Shivaram (chief executive of the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry) details the negative effects that Trump's tariffs are having on the blue-collar workers he employs. Those workers, according to Shivaram, "overwhelmingly" voted for Trump in 2024 and are now being hurt by his economic policies.

"It’s a hard truth that some kinds of manufacturing are never going to come back in the United States, and no amount of protective tariffs will change that," the aluminum exec argues. "This truth is ignored at great peril for American workers. American manufacturing workers don't ask for much: a fair wage, steady work and the dignity of knowing their job matters. At the aluminum foundry in Wisconsin where I am chief executive, those jobs start at $27 an hour with a pension, a child care stipend and the security of long-term employment. Many of our people have built careers here, sending kids to college, buying homes and retiring with pride. They are exactly the kind of workers President Donald Trump says he wants to help. On that, we agree."

Prices have gone up under Chump.  He can lie all he wants but anyone shopping in a grocery store is fully aware of how much prices have increased.  Things are only expected to get worse economically over the next few months.   Will Kenton (MONEYWISE) notes:

Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, raised concerns about the U.S. economy following the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest report on August 1st.

In a post on X, he warned, “the economy is on the precipice of recession. That’s the clear takeaway from last week’s economic data dump. Consumer spending has flatlined, construction and manufacturing are contracting, and employment is set to fall. And with inflation on the rise, it is tough for the Fed to come to the rescue.”

Just days earlier, Zandi had observed that employment was the “remaining firewall between the weakening economy and recession.”

Ayelet Sheffey, Catherine Boudreau, Sarah Jackson, Sarah Perkel, Grace Eliza Goodwin, Brent D. Griffiths,  Nora Redmond and Alex Bitter (BUSINESS INSIDER) report:

Prices are expected to go up this year as many companies signal plans to raise them in response to President Donald Trump's slew of tariffs.

While firms raise prices for many reasons, some were blaming price hikes on tariffs long before Trump's so-called "Liberation Day" on April 2. That's when he announced a 10% baseline tariff on imports from most countries, except Canada and Mexico, and a host of "reciprocal" tariffs on top of that.

The situation is fluid, as various countries continue to negotiate potential trade deals with the US.

Some economists have said that Trump's tariffs — and the uncertainty with his overall trade policy — could lead companies to raise prices on the goods they produce.

Here are the companies that have implemented or warned of price increases in recent months.

Adidas

Adidas said it will raise prices in the US because of a double-digit million euro hit from tariffs in the second quarter and a further predicted 200 million euro, about $218 million, cost from levies in the second half of the year.

Vietnam, which accounted for 27% of the German retailer's total volume in 2024, will face a 20% tariff from August 1. Indonesia made 19% of Adidas' products and will face a 19% tariff.

AutoZone

Philip Daniele, the CEO of the auto-parts company AutoZone, told analysts on a September earnings call that tariff policies had "ebbed and flowed over the years," and if Trump implemented more tariffs, "we will pass those tariff costs back to the consumer."

"We generally raise prices ahead of that," Daniele said, adding that prices would gradually settle over time. "So, that's historically what we've done," he said.

A 25% tariff on car imports is expected to increase manufacturing costs by anywhere from $4,000 to $12,000.

Best Buy

Best Buy CEO Corie Barry said during the company's March earnings call that Trump's tariff plans are likely to increase prices.

"Trade is critically important to our business and industry. The consumer electronic supply chain is highly global, technical, and complex," Barry said. "We expect our vendors across our entire assortment will pass along some level of tariff costs to retailers, making price increases for American consumers highly likely."

Use the link to read the article in full.  It's a long list of companies.  A court verdict may help ease some of the expected financial pain.  Adam Gabbatt and Dominic Rushe  (GUARDIAN) report:

Donald Trump suffered the biggest defeat yet to his tariff policies on Friday, as a federal appeals court ruled he had overstepped his presidential powers when he enacted punitive financial measures against almost every country in the world.

In a 7-4 ruling, the Washington DC court said that while US law “bestows significant authority on the president to undertake a number of actions in response to a declared national emergency”, none of those actions allow for the imposition of tariffs or taxes.

It means the ultimate ruling on the legality of Trump’s tariffs, which were famously based on spurious economic science and rocked the global economy when he announced them in April, will probably be made by the US supreme court.

Let's wind down with this from Senator Elizabeth Warren's office:

Washington, D.C. – Following news that Donald Trump plans to use the illegal “pocket recissions” tactic to claw back roughly $5 billion in congressionally-approved funding for foreign aid programs, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) released the following statement:

“After slashing health care for millions of Americans to finance tax handouts for billionaires, Donald Trump and Republicans are now trying to illegally rip away bipartisan funding approved by Congress. Today, the wannabe king is defunding support that prevents hunger and sickness worldwide. Tomorrow, it could be abolishing the Department of Education and closing your local hospital.

With Trump already unlawfully shutting down parts of the government, Republicans can’t be trusted to honor a budget deal while they’re hellbent on breaking the law and rigging the process. If Republicans want Senate Democrats to provide a single vote to fund the Trump administration while they run this illegal play, they should start by restoring the health care that they ripped away to fund giant tax giveaways to their billionaire buddies.”
