Media Advisory: America's Newest Generation of Vets to Announce 2015 Public Policy Priorities at Joint Congressiona lHearing

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America issued the following today:

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 19, 2015) – Tomorrow, Wednesday May 20, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) CEO and Founder Paul Rieckhoff will testify before the joint hearing of the House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committees in Washington, D.C. at 10 a.m.

Founded in 2004, IAVA is the leading post-9/11 veteran empowerment organization (VEO) with the most diverse and rapidly growing membership in America. With a growing base of nearly 400,000 members and supporters, IAVA’s 2015 policy priorities reflect key issues affecting the post-9/11 veterans community. IAVA has been an advocate for veterans for over a decade, most recently campaigning for the bipartisan Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans (SAV) Act, signed into law in February.

In his testimony Wednesday, Rieckhoff will present the areas of focus of IAVA’s policy agenda for 2015: the effective implementation of the SAV Act; appropriate recognition and support for female veterans, who remain a woefully overlooked segment of the veteran community; and, continuing the critical work of reform within the VA to provide adequate support to veterans, particularly around health care and as they transition from military to civilian life.
