A book that must be read

Last week, Christoph Vandreier, the deputy national secretary of the Sozialistische Gleichheitspartei, completed an extremely successful tour of the United States, centered on the themes in his recently-published book, Why Are They Back: Historical Falsficiation, Political Conspiracy and the Return of Fascism in Germany.

Hundreds of workers and young people attended these meetings, which reviewed critical historical, theoretical and political issues in the development of a socialist movement in opposition to the rise of the far-right internationally.

Christoph's book is essential reading.

We urge all workers and young people to purchase your copy today and pick up extras for your friends, family and coworkers.

The meetings connected the issues raised in Christoph's book to the present political situation, including the arrest and imprisonment of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on April 11.

“What Julian Assange did is what the corporate-controlled media is no longer doing; he revealed the crimes of the US government and showed the criminal character of this government," David North, chairman of the WSWS International Editorial Board said in Ann Arbor.

"But while all the war criminals whose atrocities Julian Assange revealed remained in their positions, the whistleblowers are now brutally attacked."
“If I had been alive in the 1930s, I would have liked to fight fascism then,” Lizzie, a social worker said after the meeting. “And now we’re going down the same path. Trump is taking children from their parents’ arms.

“I am terrified of Assange’s arrest. I wasn’t very aware of WikiLeaks until 2016. If it happens to him, it can happen to anyone."

The fight against the rise of the far-right is a fight against capitalism. To wage this struggle, workers must be armed with knowledge and understanding. For this, Why Are They Back? must be read.

The appointment of Adolf Hitler in January 1933 as Chancellor of Germany was the outcome not of an election, but of a political conspiracy involving a small number of senior military and government officials headed by General Paul von Hindenburg.

Its horrific consequences were World War II, the Holocaust and the destruction of tens of millions of lives.

Nearly 75 years after the fall of the Third Reich, the neo-Nazi right has once again become a major political force in Germany.

Why Are They Back? analyzes the interaction of high-level political conspirators, media propagandists and right-wing academics at Berlin’s Humboldt University in the present-day resurgence of Nazism and German militarism.
