1+1 Episode 29 Yuri speaks with Margaret Kimberley of BAR&BAP on the police, capitalism,&US 2020 race

1+1 once more I was honored to have back on the show Margaret Kimberley journalist and activist and historian who writes for Black Agenda Report and is part of the Black Alliance for Peace. Margaret gives us all an update on the ongoing people power protests against racism and police brutality/state terror and how the unjust system can be reformed/abolished. Margaret explains to me the issue and red flags she has with "defunding the police" and we talk about whether the police at least in the US who were founded to be racist and classist can actually be reformed or whether to abolish them as some in the US,Canada,Australia and elsewhere have advocated. I ask Margaret whether if we paid the police more and the US enacted more gun control if that will stop police corruption and brutality and we also got into a good discussion on the coronavirus crisis, how even with this highly infectious pandemic the capitalist system demands we continue to put our health at risk by going to school and work and the issue of covid-denalism and the very real issue of governments and the power that be which is pushing more reactionary policies such as endless shock doctrines/austerity. and the REAL Cancel culture taking place which is suppressing the left and the injustice inflicted on Julian Assange not the bogus one the establishment centrists/right-wingers are complaining about. and don't forget to subscribe and donate generously to the outlet Margaret writes for www.blackagendareport.com which is news, commentary and analysis from a Black Left Perspective and check out the anti-imperialist organization Margaret is part of and donate generously to them The Black Alliance for Peace at https://blackallianceforpeace.com/#ho... and get involved in that wonderful organization if you can. And please follow Black Agenda Radio at Margaret's soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/user-92939733 and buy Margaret's fantastic history book "Prejudential: Black America and the Presidents" it is along with Michelle Alexander's The New Jim Crow the must have book to understand the apartheid in the US and the Neo-Dickensian system that is also the Drug War and mass incarceration and the epidemic of state terror when speaking of the latter and the issues we discuss. Lastly Margaret has a patreon so you can support her personally/directly if you've enjoyed her appearances on 1+1 https://www.patreon.com/margaretkimbe... and she also co-hosts a show with her colleague Danny Haiphong check them out at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOxL...
