Moqtada and the press whores who cover for him

Don't you love a whorish press.

Moqtada al-Sadr is desperate to regain the power he lost in 2020.  And so many whores in the press rush to help him.  Few bother to note, for example, all the conversations he's had recently with the US government.  He's so desperate to be back in power that he's in dialogues with the 'enemy' -- the US government.  The same government in charge of the troops he pretends to want out of Iraq.

Now the whorish press is telling you that Moqtada al-Sadr turned out a crowd in Baghdad today.

Now he could have.  He owns the slum that is Sadr City.  He owns it, he doesn't fix it, he doesn't serve the people of Sadr City, he leaves them in poverty.  Some of them have awakened to that reality.  Some remain in his cult.

He's a little coward who runs to Iran when the heat gets too much for him in Iraq.  In the first few years of the war, he had the excuse that there was basically a pocket warrant out for his arrest.  It was never executed but the threat was there.  It was a game he and then-prime minister (and forever thug) Nouri al-Maliki played with one another.

Big leader Moqtada.  He tried to take down Nouri but did so in a cowardly way, back in 2011, and even with the support for so many other politicians, he wasn't able to.

When he came back to Iraq the last time, he benefitted from a renewed personal strength and several lucky breaks.  His time away provided him with a larger perspective.  He could see Iraq beyond his limited vision.  But this expanded view did not last for long and became a reactionary yet again who could no longer rally a wide range of Shias -- his ability rally beyond his sect never existed.

He's got a pool of supporters in Basra (that poll has decreased significantly) and a larger pool in Baghdad -- the Sadr City section, as noted above -- which has diminished as well (but not as badly as his support in Basra has).

So Saturday saw a protest in Baghdad.  And Moqtada's getting all the credit for the turnout.

Really?  Did Moqtada also rally supporters in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey?

No, he didn't.

Like many politicians, he grabbed a popular issue in Iraq and rode it.  He didn't turn out supporters.  What a load of crap.

AFP may be the worst of the bunch with this garbage:

Thousands of supporters of firebrand Shiite Iraqi cleric Moqtada Sadr on Saturday rallied in the capital Baghdad to denounce deadly Israeli assaults on Palestinians in the occupied territories.

“Jerusalem is ours. Death to Israel,” read signs they held up as they flooded Baghdad’s iconic Tahrir Square, holding a huge Palestinian flag above their heads.

“The world is against Palestine but God backs it,” read another sign carried by the protesters who also waved the Iraqi flag and held pictures of Sadr.

The rally came as Israel pounded the Gaza Strip on Saturday with air strikes, killing 10 members of an extended family and demolishing a 13-storey building housing international media outlets.

What a dirty, little whore.

REUTERS does a better job:

Political leaders aligned to Iran-backed militias joined the call for Iraqis to take to the streets in a rare show of unity by rival Shi'ite Muslim factions which are competing for power ahead of a general election slated for October.

More than just Moqtada?  Yeah, that's the reality.

And they note Moqtada has a paramilitary force but they fail to note that this is against Iraqi law.

Soft and pudgy Moqtada who has failed to deliver to the Iraqi people is not a big influence anymore.  He can't turn out a huge crowd across Iraq and even in Baghdad he needs a popular cause (like defending the Palestinian people) and he needs the support of other leaders to help amass a crowd.
