WASHINGTON–U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) commemorated the 75th Anniversary of D-Day today, sharing his thoughts on what the sacrifice of America’s Greatest Generation means to our country.

In Cassidy’s office hangs an emotional photo of Americans in New Orleans celebrating the end of World War 2,originally published in 1945 in the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The sacrifices of American soldiers on D-Day led to the celebration experienced in this powerful photograph.

Watch and share the video Facebook and Twitter.

Today is June the sixth. You don’t say Happy D-Day because so many Americans lost their life, but what you do is you celebrate the fact that folks who were just average Americans were such incredible heroes – storming beaches, climbing cliffs, fighting for freedom, not just in the United States, but around the world. This is a picture of folks in New Orleans celebrating the end of World War II. We can celebrate D-Day for the day that brought this day around.”
