One week ago today, the new issue of In These Times went to press

One week ago today, the new issue of In These Times went to press. Any day now, copies of the magazine will leave the printing plant in Kansas City and be on their way to subscribers and newsstands across the country.

In our 44 years of publishing we have experienced a few ups and downs, but I am happy to say that In These Times has never missed an issue. And I'm especially proud of the way in which the staff has stepped up in this difficult moment to ensure that we don't stop publishing now.

These are challenging times for all of us. But this is more than just a public health crisis -- it is a political crisis as well. And that is why we need honest, independent journalism that is willing to take on the political issues at the heart of this crisis, and at the same time give voice to the progressive values and policies solutions that should be at the heart of the response. The new issue of In These Times does just that.

In print and online, we have dramatically ramped up our coverage of the frontline communities impacted by this crisis, reporting on both its economic effects and the developing political response. It's clear that this kind of coverage is what the reading public wants -- March was our second highest month for web traffic, ever.

In this moment when America desperately needs independent journalism, many newsrooms are already feeling the financial impact. Here at In These Times, we are doing everything we can to move forward with our monthly print schedule, as well as our daily online web coverage.

Our ability to do so will depend in large part on the support of our readers. As a nonprofit, we don't have a corporate parent company or billionaire funders to fall back on -- we just have you.

If it is within your present means, please consider making a donation to help keep In These Times publishing during this critical time.

In solidarity,

Joel Bleifuss
Editor & Publisher

P.S. I know that many people have themselves been financially impacted by this crisis. It is our hope that if enough readers make even a small contribution, together it will be enough to keep In These Times publishing. But if you are unable to make any contribution today, I understand, and hope you’ll continue supporting In These Times in the future. We are all in this together.
