The Senate must protect voting rights

Feminist Majority Foundation

Dear Common Ills,

As our country prepares to celebrate Independence Day voting rights are under attack. Nationwide Republican-controlled state legislatures are passing laws to restrict voting access, especially impacting Black and brown communities and young people.

Just this week, the Supreme Court ruled to uphold two restrictive anti-voter laws in Arizona that disproportionately impact people of color, young people, the elderly, and disabled people. Congress must act now to protect voting rights.

The For the People Act to expand voter access and protect the right to vote has passed the House but is languishing in the Senate under the threat of a filibuster. Demand that our U.S. senators pass S 1!

For the People Act of 2021 expands voter access for all. It provides automatic voter registration, same-day voter registration, and online voter registration in every state. It limits a state’s abilities to purge eligible voters from the rolls and ensures that disabled voters can register and vote absentee. It expands access to early voting during federal elections and requires states to allow any eligible voter to vote by mail.

Let your Senators know that voting rights must be protected at all costs. Contact them now to demand they vote YES on the For the People Act!

Despite wide bipartisan support among the public Republican senators, led by Mitch McConnell, are using the filibuster to prevent the For the People Act from coming to the Senate floor for even a debate. It’s time to listen to the will of the people. The Senate must end the filibuster and act to protect voting rights and expand voter access. Contact your senators today!
