Iraq

In a land of orphans and widows, in the occupied country of Iraq, few job opportunities exist.

  1. Poverty in post-war Iraq has forced children to sell scrap metal to survive.

Children forced to scavenge.  In addition, PRESS TV reports:

At least four schoolchildren have lost their lives and six others sustained injuries when a bomb explosion ripped through their vehicle in Iraq’s northern province of Nineveh.

Police Lieutenant Thiab al-Jabouri said the incident took place in the town of al-Shura, located roughly 45 kilometers south of provincial capital city of Mosul, on Thursday afternoon when a roadside bomb went off near a bus.

Zeina Awad of UNICEF declared:

The violence that took the lives of four school children today and injured several others in al-Shoura subdistrict south of the city of Mosul is a stark reminder that the vicious cycle of violence continues in Iraq.
UNICEF verified that 11 secondary-school children between the age of 12-17 were making the long journey to school from their remote village when the truck they were riding came under attack.
This attack might jeopardise the tremendous efforts to get children back to school in areas where violence was the heaviest.
Iraqi children keep saying over and over again, 'if there is no school there is no life and if there no life there is no school.'

Attacks on children are senseless and must stop. Children and their right to education must be protected at all times.

In addition, MENAFN notes, "Police and medical sources declared that over three miners have died as six more were injured when a roadside bomb blasted near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul."

Violence continues.  US troops continue to be in Iraq.

Happy Thanksgiving from the boys in Iraq 😈

I'm almost done with my book review.  It's Chris Hedges' book and it's far, far from a rave.
